Procrastination, the artists evil. Do you succumb procrastination?
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie discuss procrastination and what they do and don't do - perhaps this will resonate with you (I rhymed there :) !
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key talking points:
- Stephanie: her personality requires her to be doing something all the time, but she does find she procrastinates on painting because of potential interruptions
- Jule: if she is the one setting the deadlines, she'll easily push it off. But if she owes it to someone, she'll stay on task.
- This is where I coach or accountability can help you not push off the deadlines that move you forward.
- Rachel's procrastination comes from going down rabbit holes, and squirrel moments.
- Draw out the 4 quadrants to determine what is important and urgent to meet the goals (Urgent-Important, Urgent - Not important, Not Urgent - Important, Not Urgent - Not important)
- Advice: Flip the narrative - make a goal of nos instead of yeses. Take the shots like Michael Jordan.
- Advice: Take imperfect actions.
- Advice: If you are really struggling moving forward find a coach that will hold you accountable, who specializes in your niche, and who is not a friend, who can be objective.
We'd love to hear what do you do to overcome procrastination, email us at hello@artistssoar.com

Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022

If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key talking points:
- check out The Inspired Painter with Jessica Libor podcast that prompted this discussion. Episode 85.
- do we put pain on our artwork, or do we edit to what is acceptable or on brand.
- art is therapy to release some of the painful thoughts.
- "Keep Moving Forward"
- Find a safe place for you to share what is really bothering you. Having your truth spoken is healing. Say your truth with kindness.
- Talk with your doctor.
- You've got one life - be true to you.

As an artist, what would you have told yourself 10 years ago?

- Try new things, you may discover you like something better than what you've been doing.

Why are artists so closed off or show WIP.And why artists won’t take apprentices
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie discuss why artists are so closed off and why they won't show off their art or take on apprentices. If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key talking points:
- Every artist takes on a subject or approaches art and art business differently because they are different. So is there really competition among apprentices?
- Are interns the new apprentices?
- Direct interaction cannot be replaced with a video. For a real internship or apprenticeship, you need to have a direct discussion.
- What about coaching? Coaching is more for growing beyond what you are right now.
- Quote "Our generation monetized the crap out of everything."
- If you want to hire an intern or apprentice, you need to review your state labor laws.
- We prefer to use FreeUp or Fivvr to handle the jobs we don't want to do.
- Are we standoff because we don't want to be judged or should you be open about your process and the evolution of the piece?
What are your thoughts on all of this? Are you closed off or consider your process part of the creative journey you want to share, email us at hello@artistssoar.com

Attorney Kiffanie Stahl J.D Chats with Us About Artist Copyrights and More!
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie have a very special guest with them, Kiffanie Stahle J.D. to chat with us about what to do when you get a copycat and so much more!!
AS AN FYI - We strive for great audio, but sometimes tech doesn't want to work as well as we desire. In this recording, we had an occasional slow bandwidth, regardless of this occasional issue, we hope you find this fabulous and valuable, and we appreciate your patience.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key talking points:
-
- Legal remedies are for them to stop, give a retroactive royalty license, or pay you money.
- There will be the mental, emotional, and potentially creative blocks that can come along with these situations.
- Never keep your work offline out of fear of copycats.
- To protect yourself:
- Register with U.S. Copyright office BEFORE a copycat strikes. This will then make the offender pay for attorney fees.
- Register BEFORE first publication.
- What to consider for Surface Pattern Design as derivative work.
- When to submit a DMCA takedown notice and who to submit it to.
- CASE Act small claims copycat court releases on 6/25/2022.
- Kiffanie addresses when is it worth engaging an attorney about a copycat.
- NFTs' role with a copycat falls more in line with an exclusive license. This is open for issues and a whole other discussion we hope to address in the future.
- What should mural artists consider with their copyrights - was it a "tricky work for hire". Really evaluate the agreement to see what you gave them permission to do.
- For more legal questions check out The Artist Courtyard Membership Community.
